05 - 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

10 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
11 - 1/2 cup buttermilk
12 - Red food coloring as needed

→ Filling

13 - 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
14 - 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
15 - 2 to 3 cups powdered sugar
16 - 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

# How to Make It:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
02 - In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, salt, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda.
03 - In a large bowl, beat softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
04 - Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
05 - Add red food coloring, then alternate mixing in the flour mixture and buttermilk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients, until a smooth batter forms.
06 - Transfer batter to a piping bag and pipe heart shapes onto prepared baking sheets, spacing evenly apart.
07 - Bake in preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until tops are set. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
08 - In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar gradually and vanilla extract; mix until a fluffy, spreadable consistency is achieved.
09 - Spread or pipe filling onto the flat side of half the cooled cakes. Top with remaining halves to form sandwiches.

# Extra Tips:

01 - Chill the batter briefly for easier piping of heart shapes and a more uniform rise.
