Preheat oven to 475°F with a pizza stone or heavy baking sheet placed inside to heat thoroughly.

On a floured surface, roll the pizza dough to a 12-inch round, aiming for your preferred thickness.

Transfer the rolled dough onto a parchment-lined pizza peel or baking sheet. Evenly spread the pizza sauce over the base, leaving a small border. Distribute the shredded mozzarella across the sauce, followed by the crumbled cooked sausage. Dot the pizza surface with spoonfuls of ricotta and sprinkle with red pepper flakes, if desired.

Drizzle the assembled pizza with olive oil. Carefully slide the pizza, parchment and all, onto the preheated stone or sheet. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the crust turns golden and the cheese bubbles and browns in spots.

Remove pizza from the oven. Generously drizzle with hot honey and scatter fresh basil leaves, if using. Slice into pieces and serve immediately.
